What Happened at Trump Event
Gunfire near the event in Washington late Saturday prompted a swift security response and the evacuation of attendees, including Trump.
The suspect was apprehended and authorities so far believe he acted alone.
The suspect, armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives, attempted to breach a Secret Service-controlled area and fired at an agent, who was protected by a bullet-resistant vest and is expected to recover, according to officials.
Trump later told reporters at the White House that “they go after you” when “you’re impactful,” adding that “I want to live because I want to make this country great.
The US president said the injured agent is in “good shape” and described the attacker as a likely “lone wolf.”
The suspect was identified as Cole Allen, a 31-year-old man from California, and an investigation is ongoing.
