CAIRO – 24 April 2026: Following the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the Egyptian state is accelerating its national strategy for the development of the Sinai Peninsula. Sinai has emerged as an attractive destination for investment, a transition fueled by the implementation of several mega-projects.

These initiatives are transforming the region into a global investment hub supported by robust security infrastructure, focusing on both land reclamation and human empowerment.

The Ministry of Military Production plays a pivotal role in implementing projects that serve the residents of Sinai. By leveraging the expertise of its manufacturing subsidiaries, the Ministry utilizes surplus production capacity to execute diverse projects that support regional growth.

Development in Sinai is viewed as a fundamental pillar of Egyptian national security. Experience has demonstrated that developing the land serves as the primary line of defense against external threats. Furthermore, the strategy extends beyond physical infrastructure; it prioritizes the "Sinai citizen" as the most vital element in ensuring the success of this development model.

As a key partner in achieving sustainable development, the Ministry of Military Production has spearheaded several infrastructure initiatives:

Solid waste management

In a collaborative effort with various state entities, the ministry is modernizing waste management. Leveraging extensive technical expertise, military production companies are establishing recycling plants and upgrading sorting stations.

In the second phase of this system, four primary sorting stations were successfully handed over in South Sinai Governorate, specifically serving the cities of El-Tor, Abu Rudeis, Ras Sudr, and Nuweiba. These facilities include advanced equipment such as 60-ton iron sorting balers, Bobcat loaders, and 100 kVA generators to ensure operational efficiency.

Infrastructure and social improvement in north and south Sinai

The Ministry has implemented a wide array of specialized projects to improve the quality of life for Sinai’s citizens:

Food Security: The completion of a semi-automated calf slaughterhouse has modernized local meat processing, ensuring greater speed, hygiene, and accuracy compared to manual methods.

Industrial Empowerment: The Ministry established 48 industrial craft units, creating a specialized complex for carpentry, blacksmithing, and aluminum fabrication to foster local technical skills.

Urban Lighting: Lighting infrastructure has been overhauled across several cities and villages, utilizing modern, energy-efficient systems.

Water Security: A leading subsidiary contributed eight seawater desalination plants and two wastewater treatment plants. Key projects include facilities in Al-Hasana, Abu Ageila, Nakhl, Nuweiba, and Taba, providing up to 5,000 m³/day of clean water to support the National Authority for Potable Water and Sanitation.

Sustainable transportation

As part of Egypt’s transition toward an environmentally friendly economy, the Ministry delivered five locally manufactured electric buses to South Sinai. These buses serve as a model for "smart, green transportation," reducing carbon emissions while maintaining a modern aesthetic that complements Sharm El-Sheikh’s identity as a global tourism destination.

This builds on the success of COP27 (2022), where the Ministry provided 110 electric buses to the Green Transport System, demonstrating high operational efficiency during the international climate conference.

Strengthening cooperation and community services

The partnership between the Ministry of Military production and the South Sinai Governorate extends to road paving, construction, and environmental conservation. Under the presidential "100 Million Trees" initiative, the Ministry has supplied various trees to the region.

Additionally, the Ministry has established civilian exhibitions offering household appliances at reduced prices. This initiative utilizes the surplus production capacity of military units (after meeting the needs of the Armed Forces) to provide affordable goods to local residents, reinforcing the MoMP’s role as the "industrial arm of the state."

Protecting against flash floods

To protect lives and property, the Ministry of military production is nearing the completion of two artificial lakes and a 2.4 km diversion barrier in Wadi Ba'ba' (Abu Rudeis). This project is critical for mitigating the risks of flash floods caused by climate change. Beyond protection, these structures allow for rainwater harvesting, which supports drinking water supplies and desert agriculture.

Future projects: clean energy and green hydrogen

To maximize Sinai’s unique topographical advantages, studies are underway for a green hydrogen production plant in Tor Sinai. Powered by solar and hydroelectric energy, this project aims to position Sinai at the forefront of the global transition to clean energy, offering a 100% sustainable fuel source with zero carbon emissions.

The Ministry of Military Production remains committed to establishing strategic partnerships across the state, ensuring that Sinai becomes a global model for integrated development, local manufacturing, and clean technology.
