et Report: Egypt works relentlessly to create integrated educational environment in Sinai

CAIRO - 23 April 2026: Completed in 1982, the liberation of Sinai marked the beginning of a transformative era in the peninsula, shifting focus on comprehensive development. Since then, Egypt initiated massive infrastructure, agricultural, and urban projects, aiming to boost the economy and living conditions in Sinai. 
 
Among the different sectors that were tapped in amid the development process was the education sector, which is considered a strategic pillar in the state’s efforts to achieve development in Sinai. 
 
Prioritizing education in Sinai comes in line with the Egyptian state’s agenda that considers education a fundamental cornerstone for human development and strengthening social stability. 
 
And today, the Ministry of Education and Technical Education continues to implement an ambitious plan to develop the educational system in the North and South Sinai governorates.
 
The goal the state seeks is to provide an integrated educational environment that meets quality standards and contributes to providing equitable educational opportunities. As the state is committed to achieving this goal, it has exerted efforts that include expanding in the construction of schools, improving infrastructure, and supporting teachers. 
 
 
In the below lines, et displays the Ministry of Education’s efforts to advance the educational process in both North and South Sinai for the year 2025/2026.
 
 
First: The Ministry's Efforts in North Sinai Governorate
 
North Sinai Governorate witnessed the implementation of several educational projects aimed at improving infrastructure and expanding school capacity, as follows:
 
A total of 11 projects were implemented. These range from the renovation to the construction of new educational facilities. Also, five  comprehensive maintenance and expansion projects were implemented. 
 
 
These projects aim to:
 
1- Reduce student density.
 
2- Improve the quality of the educational environment.
 
3- Support the stability of the educational process in the governorate.
 
4- Accommodate the increase in student numbers.
 
The governorate also witnessed a qualitative leap in the expansion of the establishment and development of educational facilities, contributing to improving the quality of education and providing a comprehensive and safe learning environment, as follows:
 
- Establishing two new educational administrations to support the administrative structure and improve the efficiency of providing educational services.
 
- Expanding the establishment of new schools in areas that suffered from a lack of educational servicest.
 
- Introducing advanced educational models for the first time in the governorate, including:
 
The International School (IPS)
 
The School for Gifted Students in Science and Technology (STEM)
 
The WE School for Applied Technology
 
This comes within the framework of diversifying educational pathways and providing distinguished educational opportunities for the governorate's residents.
 
Among the steps that were taken was eliminating the two-shift system (evening shift) in all educational departments within the governorate, which contributed to improving the quality of the educational process.
 
The ministry also expanded the construction of classrooms, with approximately 270 new classrooms built, accommodating nearly 12,000 students, and providing a suitable learning environment and decent school buildings.
 
Further, the Fayrouz Educational Complex was opened and operated. The complex includes three integrated schools and serves as a modern model for educational complexes that support the quality of the educational process in the governorate.
 
 
Secondly: The Ministry's Efforts in South Sinai Governorate
 
Within the framework of supporting educational development in South Sinai Governorate, a number of projects were implemented aimed at expanding the construction of schools and improving educational services, as follows:
 
 
A total of 17 comprehensive expansion and maintenance projects were implemented.
 
To facilitate the access of residents of remote areas to education, the ministry established and opened six primary schools to serve the children of these communities. It also equipped 27 rest areas in schools in mountainous valleys to provide suitable accommodation for teachers and a safe and appropriate environment for living and working.
 
Examples of schools that have been built or upgraded include schools in the districts of Tor Sinai, Ras Sudr, Saint Catherine, and others, with an average of 11 classrooms per school.
 
 
 
These efforts contribute to:
 
1- Achieving educational stability in border and remote areas.
 
2- Supporting the state's urban development plans in Sinai.
 
3- Improving the quality of educational services provided to students.
 
These ongoing efforts underscore that the Egyptian state prioritizes the development of Sinai, and that educational development is a key pillar of this development. 
 
The Ministry of Education and Technical Education is committed to building a modern educational system capable of preparing qualified generations equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for the future.
 
These projects also reflect the true scale of investment in the Egyptian people and reinforce the principle of equitable access to education, contributing to sustainable development and enhancing security and stability throughout Sinai.
