Development plan in Sinai
CAIRO - 23 April 2026: CAIRO - 23 April 2026: Sinai has always been a symbol of Egyptian pride and resilience. Just as it was once the stage for heroic liberation, today it stands as a beacon of development and enlightenment.
The true victory in Sinai has evolved from reclaiming the land to empowering its people. Its golden sands are now home to world-class universities and scientific hubs. Investing in the minds of our youth is the modern triumph that ensures a prosperous and stable future for the “Land of Turquoise.”
In celebration of the 44th anniversary of Sinai Liberation, the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced a massive leap in the development of the Sinai Peninsula and Canal cities. Backed by unprecedented support from the political leadership, the state has invested a staggering LE 25.6 billion into transforming the region’s higher education landscape.
Abdel Aziz Qanswa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasized that these mega-projects are a cornerstone of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s vision for comprehensive national development. "Our goal is not just to build universities, but to create specialized academic hubs that align with global labor market demands and serve as catalysts for sustainable development in these strategic territories," the Minister stated.
The ministry’s report highlighted several landmark projects that have reshaped the region:
- King Salman International University: Spanning three campuses (Sharm El-Sheikh, El-Tor, Ras Sudr) with a total investment of LE 10.5 billion, offering dual-degree programs with prestigious international partners.
- Arish University: Undergoing major upgrades and development worth LE 1.7 billion to link education with the local knowledge economy.
- Suez University (Abu Rudeis Branch): The first public university branch in South Sinai, established at a cost of LE 3.5 billion.
- New National Universities: Including East Port Said National University (LE 4.6 billion) and New Ismailia National University (LE 4.5 billion), both representing fourth-generation institutions.
- East Port Said Technological University: A modern industrial-support hub built at a cost of LE 808 million, set to graduate its first cohort this academic year.
Adel Abdel Ghaffar, the Ministry’s spokesperson, noted that the diversity, ranging from public and private to technological and international branch universities, aims to foster academic collaboration and prepare a highly-skilled workforce.
University leaders across the region, including heads of King Salman, Arish, Suez, and East Port Said universities, confirmed that these institutions are already seeing high student enrollment. This reflects growing public trust in the quality of education provided and the state's commitment to investing in the human capital of Sinai’s youth.
By bridging the gap between education and the economy, Sinai’s new academic landscape stands as a testament to Egypt’s victory in peace and development, ensuring a brighter, more stable future for the "Land of Turquoise."
