CAIRO – 21 April 2026: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday an extension of the ceasefire with Iran.

According to Trump, the decision to extend the truce follows a formal request from Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

He explained that Pakistani leaders requested a suspension of U.S. military action against Iran to allow Iranian leadership and representatives time to present a unified proposal.

President Trump further noted that the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will remain in effect, emphasizing that U.S. forces will continue to operate on high alert.

On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated that while Tehran has submitted a 10-point proposal to Pakistan, there are clear indications that the United States lacks the seriousness required to pursue a diplomatic track.

"We have never trusted the American side due to its long history of betraying diplomacy," Baghaei said. He attributed the current instability in the Strait of Hormuz to American and Israeli aggression, asserting that the strait was secure prior to recent attacks.

He called upon the international community to hold the U.S. and Israel accountable for endangering maritime security.

Baghaei emphasized that Iran remains prepared to respond forcefully to any further aggression and confirmed that there are currently no plans for a second round of negotiations with the United States.

He described American proposals as "unserious" and their demands as "unrealistic," accusing Washington of violating ceasefire terms.
