CAIRO – 19 April 2026: Egypt and Pakistan expressed their hope for a second round of negotiations between Iran and the United States that would help reach understandings aimed at consolidating the ceasefire, de-escalating tensions, and bringing an end to the conflict.

During a phone call on Sunday between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, both sides stressed that negotiation and dialogue remain the only viable path to resolving the ongoing crisis.

The call comes within the framework of ongoing consultation and coordination between the two countries to stay abreast of the latest regional developments and to align joint efforts. The two ministers also reviewed initiatives aimed at advancing the diplomatic track between Washington and Tehran.

Egypt, Pakistan, and Turkey have played a key role in mediation efforts between the United States and Iran, contributing to both sides’ acceptance of a ceasefire last week.

According to The Hindu, outlines of a potential agreement began to take shape following a period of intense political negotiations. Initially, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff rejected Iran’s proposal, describing it as a “disaster.” At a critical stage, Egypt, Pakistan, and Turkey intervened, introducing revisions to help bridge differences. In the final hours before the deadline set by the U.S. administration, a revised proposal for a two-week ceasefire was accepted by both parties.
