El-Sisi congratulates Guelleh on re-election as Djibouti president

CAIRO – 19 April 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi extended his sincere congratulations to Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh on his re-election for a new term.

El-Sisi affirmed that the victory reflects the firm confidence of the Djiboutian people in Guelleh’s wise leadership and his continued efforts to achieve development and prosperity for his country.

He said Egypt looks forward to continuing cooperation with Djibouti to strengthen the two countries’ fraternal relations and advance their existing strategic partnership across various fields.

El-Sisi also highlighted the importance of intensifying consultation and coordination on regional issues of mutual interest.

Guelleh expressed appreciation for El-Sisi’s congratulations, affirming the deep fraternal and the strategic ties binding Egypt and Djibouti and their peoples.

The Djiboutian president also praised the continued momentum and development in bilateral relations, stressing the need for further strengthening cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.

Guelleh, who has been in office since 1999, has secured re-election for a sixth term in the April 10 elections, winning 97.8% of the vote against his rival Mohamed Farah Samatar, according to state-owned Radio Television Djibouti.
