CAIRO – 17 April 2026: The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) forecasts that Friday, April 17, will see active winds and unstable weather conditions across most of the country.
Active winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h are expected nationwide. These winds are likely to stir up sand and dust, potentially reducing horizontal visibility to less than 1,000 meters in some areas. Intermittent gusts reaching speeds of 60 to 70 km/h are also possible.
A slight decrease in temperatures is expected across the north. Maximum temperatures will be noticeably lower along the northern coast, Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, and northern Upper Egypt compared to previous days.
There is a high probability of moderate to heavy rain, occasionally accompanied by thunder, in scattered regions including Salloum, Siwa, Marsa Matrouh, and El Alamein. Similar conditions are expected across the Red Sea mountain range and the Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba.
The EMA warns of potential flash floods in parts of Sinai, where there is a 30% chance of localized heavy rainfall.
Light rain is also projected for Alexandria Governorate and parts of central and southern Upper Egypt. There remains a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms and light rain extending to the Suez Canal cities, the Nile Delta, Greater Cairo, and northern Upper Egypt at intervals.
Maritime navigation will be significantly disrupted along the western Mediterranean coast and the Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba. Wind speeds at sea are expected to reach 50 to 70 km/h, with wave heights ranging between 2.5 and 3.5 meters.
Temperature expected for Friday:
Cairo: High 30°C / Low 20°C

Sohag: High 37°C / Low 19°C
