Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar
CAIRO - 16 April 2026: A pharmaceutical company, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Population, the World Health Organization, and the Heart Health Program in Africa, launched a program to improve heart and kidney disease care, Thursday in Cairo.
The launching ceremony was attended by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, and Dr. Mohamed Hassani, Assistant Minister of Health and Population for Public Health Projects and Initiatives.
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, stated that approximately 29 percent of Egyptians suffer from hypertension, meaning about 30 million people with the condition. He explained that 14 percent suffer from kidney disease and 15 percent suffer from diabetes, meaning about 1.5 million people with diabetes.
He added that awareness campaigns are underway and that it is essential to reach every citizen in clubs and densely populated neighborhoods.
He further explained that Egypt has received numerous international awards in cooperation with its successful partners from pharmaceutical companies and the World Health Organization, adding that Egypt has become a model to be emulated globally, and this has economic benefits that are reflected in the health of Egyptian citizens.
The program highlights efforts to improve heart and kidney disease care in Egypt by raising community awareness, supporting early detection, developing medical personnel, and standardizing operational mechanisms among various healthcare stakeholders.
This event complements the close collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Population, the pharmaceutical company, and the World Health Organization.
The program aims to enhance the quality of healthcare services and improve treatment outcomes for Egyptian citizens.
The conference was attended by Dr. Nima Saeed Abid, WHO Representative in Egypt, along with several other WHO representatives and leaders from the Ministry of Health and Population.
