CAIRO – 15 April 2026: A second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran is likely to take place next week, according to a White House statement on Wednesday.

"Discussions are being held" and "we feel good about the prospects of a deal," Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters, adding that further talks "would very likely" be held in Islamabad.

Pakistani news outlets have also reported that directives have been issued to ensure logistical and security readiness in Islamabad in preparation for hosting the high-level talks.

Citing various sources, these reports indicate that the second round between Washington and Tehran is expected to be held in the Pakistani capital next week as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to contain regional tensions.

These developments reflect Pakistan's growing role as a mediator between the two nations, particularly given the recent surge in regional diplomatic activity. This anticipated round is being closely watched by the international community due to its direct impact on regional security and the future of the escalating friction between Iran and the United States.

On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that “something could be happening over the next two days,” referring to the ongoing Islamabad negotiations. In statements made to the New York Post, he noted that additional U.S.-Iran peace talks “could be happening” in Pakistan’s capital, though he claimed discussions were “happening, but, you know, a little bit slow.”

Trump initially suggested that a second round of direct negotiations would likely take place in Europe. However, he later clarified his preference for the current venue. “You should stay there, really, because something could be happening over the next two days, and we’re more inclined to go there,” he said regarding Islamabad. “It’s more likely, you know why? Because the field marshal is doing a great job.”
