CAIRO - 10 April 2026: The third round of Egyptian-French consultations on migration was held at the French Ministry of Interior in Paris on April 8 and 9, 2026.
High-Level Representation The Egyptian delegation was led by Ambassador Wael Hamed, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Affairs, while the French side was chaired by Patrick Stefanini, the representative of the French Interior Minister for Migration. The talks were attended by Egypt’s Ambassador to Paris, Tarek Dahrough, and the Consul General in Paris, Ambassador Tamer Tawfik, alongside several senior officials.
Promoting Legal Migration Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in the field of migration, with a strong emphasis on supporting legal migration pathways and facilitating the mobility of individuals. Both sides aimed to align these movements with the needs of their respective labor markets and mutual interests.
Combatting Illegal Migration The two parties reviewed mechanisms to combat illegal migration, human trafficking, and smuggling networks. They stressed the importance of intelligence sharing, expertise exchange, and strengthening security coordination between relevant authorities in both nations.
A Comprehensive Approach The consultations highlighted the necessity of a comprehensive approach to migration that addresses developmental and economic dimensions. This includes supporting training and rehabilitation programs, creating job opportunities, and tackling the root causes of irregular migration.
Strategic Partnership Concluding the session, Egypt and France reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing dialogue and building on previous progress to further strengthen their strategic partnership and support regional stability.
