TEHRAN – 4 April 2026: Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has risen to its highest level since the outbreak of war, with more vessels transiting the key waterway in recent days, according to Bloomberg tracking data.
The uptick includes ships without clear ties to Iran or China, as countries continue negotiations with Tehran to secure safe passage.
Despite the increase, overall volumes remain well below pre-war levels, when roughly a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas flows moved through the strait daily.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said they targeted an Israel-linked ship in the strait with a drone, causing the ship to “catch fire.”
