CAIRO – 2 April 2026: Egypt warned that continued military escalation in the region threatens serious repercussions for both regional and international peace and security during talks with the United States on Thursday.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the ongoing regional escalation with US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos, emphasizing Egypt’s call for upholding diplomacy and dialogue to achieve de-escalation.

He stressed that the path of dialogue and de-escalation remains the only viable option to prevent the region from sliding into widespread chaos.

Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s earnest efforts to reduce tensions and bring an end to the war.

Their discussions come as the US-Israel war in Iran has entered its fifth week, leaving scores of people dead or injured and prompting retaliatory Iranian strikes against Arab states hosting US military forces.

The ongoing escalation has destabilized the region and reverberated globally, disrupting oil supplies amid the near closure of the Strait of Hormuz and sending energy prices sharply higher.

Sudan War

Abdelatty and Boulos also discussed the conflict in Sudan.

The foreign minister stressed the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, supporting its national institutions, and rejecting the establishment of any parallel entities.

He emphasized the need for a fully Sudanese-led political process to bring an end to the conflict.

Abdelatty highlighted the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce as a preliminary step toward a sustainable ceasefire, allowing humanitarian aid to reach those in need and alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people.

Abdelatty condemned all violations against civilians in Sudan, describing them as a blatant breach of international humanitarian law, and underscored the necessity of protecting civilians and safeguarding critical infrastructure.

Profound Relations

During the call, both sides expressed hope to continue developing bilateral relations between Egypt and the US.

They praised the deep strategic partnership and its contribution to shared interests across various fields, reinforcing regional security and stability.
