Dust storm in Alexandria - file
CAIRO - 1 April 2026: Alexandria Governorate experienced a period of rapid and severe weather fluctuations, including a sudden dust storm that reduced visibility to near zero.
The dust storm moved eastward, affecting eastern Alexandria.
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority warned of the eastward movement of the dust storm, impacting areas east of Alexandria and northern Lower Egypt (Beheira and Kafr El Sheikh governorates).
It is expected to progress further, affecting Damietta, northern Dakahlia, and Port Said governorates as the storm progresses.
Cairo has already started to experience the dust storm in the early hours of the day.
The storm will be accompanied by a deterioration in horizontal visibility, so caution is advised. Dust will also persist in parts of the Western Desert.
As for the chances of rainfall, rain clouds will continue to affect areas of northern Upper Egypt, southern Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, and Sinai. This will be accompanied by rainfall of varying intensity, sometimes heavy in some areas, with continued wind activity across most of the governorate.
Weather conditions are expected to improve in the governorate on Thursday.
