CAIRO - 30 March 2026: Egyptians are warned of severe weather fluctuations that are expected to hit the country as of Tuesday afternoon, and will last for 72 hours.
According to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, rapid changes in weather conditions and thunderstorms are set to begin gradually Tuesday.
Egyptians have seen improvement in weather on Saturday and Sunday, with a slight rise in temperature after a recent wave of unstable weather and heavy rains concluded.
Dr. Manar Ghanem, a member of the Media Center at the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, said that the chances of rain will increase on Tuesday, to include most governorates with varying intensities.
She noted expectations of light to moderate rain on the northwestern coasts and the Western Desert, with the possibility of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall at times during the evening in areas of Salloum, Marsa Matrouh, and Siwa.
Dr. Ghanem also revealed the weather forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, confirming that rainfall amounts will increase significantly across the country. She stressed that the Authority is monitoring weather maps minute by minute due to the rapid changes, and urges citizens to follow daily weather bulletins to take precautions.
Warnings to farmers
Dr. Mohamed Ali Fahim, Head of the Climate Change Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, issued an urgent warning regarding a severe weather disturbance affecting the country.
On the agricultural front, Fahim emphasized that this weather system represents a "severe test" for the current season, necessitating strict proactive measures from farmers. He called for the immediate cessation of all irrigation and spraying operations, along with the prompt opening of drains to remove excess water from wheat, potato, onion, and strawberry fields to prevent root rot.
He directed the securing of greenhouses and the reinforcement of plastic tunnels to withstand the strong winds, emphasizing that swift intervention with preventative spraying against fungal diseases after the storm subsides will be crucial in saving crops.
In closing, the head of the Climate Information Center urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and stay away from light poles, trees, and billboards during storms.
He also advised minimizing unnecessary travel during peak hours and adhering to safe driving practices on highways due to reduced visibility.
He affirmed that the center will continue to monitor weather map updates closely and issue any further warnings as needed.
