CAIRO - 26 March 2026: China’s Defense Ministry said Beijing will work to de-escalate the fighting in the Middle East and prevent the conflict from expanding, as the region faces a dangerous stretch of escalation that has already shaken energy markets and disrupted trade routes.

The ministry’s message, delivered by a defense spokesperson in Beijing, framed China’s position as focused on reducing military tension and pushing for a return to diplomacy. It also signaled concern that continued strikes and counterstrikes could widen the war beyond its current fronts, pulling more countries into the fallout and deepening the economic shock.

China has been increasingly vocal about the risks of a wider regional conflict, especially the knock-on impact on global stability. Officials in Beijing have repeatedly stressed that conflicts in the Middle East do not stay local for long, with consequences showing up quickly in oil prices, shipping insurance, supply chains, and wider market confidence.
