CAIRO - 22 MARCH 2026: Egypt has strongly condemned recent attacks carried out by Israeli settlers in a number of villages and towns in the northern West Bank, describing them as a dangerous escalation targeting Palestinian civilians and their property.
In a statement, Egypt cited incidents south of Jenin and south of Nablus, saying the assaults took place under the protection of Israeli occupation forces and amount to a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
Cairo said it is deeply concerned by what it called a rising pattern of settler violence since the start of the current escalation, warning that the trend reflects a systematic push to change realities on the ground and impose a fait accompli, at a time when attention is being diverted from what it described as blatant violations in the West Bank.
Egypt also said the attacks represent a clear breach of international legitimacy resolutions, singling out UN Security Council Resolution 2334, and said the actions are at odds with the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the illegality of occupation and settlement activity and related measures.
The statement called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities by stopping the violations, providing protection for Palestinian civilians, and holding those responsible to account, as part of efforts to contain escalation, restore de-escalation paths, and move toward what Egypt described as a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause.
