CAIRO - 21 MARCH 2026: Egypt’s streets took on a different rhythm during Eid al-Fitr, lively, bright, and full of quick, friendly exchanges between strangers. In several major squares and busy streets, many people stopped to take photos, greet one another, and share short Eid wishes with passers-by.

A noticeable moment for many families came from the police presence on the ground. Officers were seen handing out flowers and small gifts to pedestrians and drivers, a gesture that drew smiles, phone cameras, and plenty of “Happy Eid” greetings in return.

In spontaneous conversations in public squares, some citizens also used the holiday atmosphere to send messages of support to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, offering Eid greetings and saying they value the sense of stability they feel during major public occasions. Others said that seeing security services present in a calm, organized way helps them feel more comfortable while moving around with children and older family members.

Several women in the crowd also spoke about the holiday feeling “lighter” when public spaces are orderly and families can celebrate without stress, while others linked their optimism to the pace of national projects they say they have watched grow over recent years.

Across these scenes, the dominant mood was simple: people wanted to enjoy the holiday, take their families out, and hold on to a feeling that the country is moving forward, even with a region that remains tense.
