CAIRO - 20 March 2026: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan emphasized the urgent need for regional de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution to ongoing military conflicts during a phone call on Friday.

The two top diplomats warned of the "catastrophic consequences" should the current cycle of violence expand, noting that a wider conflict poses a direct threat to both regional and international peace and security.

The discussion comes as part of regular consultations between Cairo and Ankara to coordinate positions on volatile regional shifts.

Addressing the crisis in Sudan, Abdelatty and Fidan reaffirmed their commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a Friday statement, the ministers stressed the importance of supporting Sudan's national institutions, explicitly rejecting any equivalence between state institutions and militias.

They further called for creating a conducive environment to resume a comprehensive political process to end the Sudanese conflict.
