CAIRO – 18 March 2026: Saudi Arabia and Jordan issued alerts on Wednesday amid a surge of missile activity and military escalation on several fronts.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that its forces successfully intercepted a missile attack targeting the Eastern Province amid escalating military tensions in the region.
The Ministry confirmed that air defense forces intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched toward the Eastern Province, with no casualties or material damage reported.
This operation reflects the readiness of Saudi defense systems to deal with aerial threats in light of increasing security challenges.
Recent days have witnessed an exchange of missile attacks, along with the targeting of vital energy facilities—most notably gas fields in southern Iran—leading to disruptions in regional energy supplies.
The escalation has also affected other countries in the region, with drones and missiles detected in the airspace of several Gulf states. Alerts were issued in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain, and air raid sirens sounded in areas near the theater of operations.
In Jordan, sirens sounded in the city of Aqaba, across the border from Eilat in southern Israel, reflecting the spillover of the escalation into neighboring countries.
These developments come amid repeated missile launches from Iran toward Israel, with sirens blaring in Tel Aviv and central Israel, and reports of explosions and partial interceptions.
This coincided with Hezbollah operations on the Lebanese front targeting Israeli military positions, along with clashes and attempted ground incursions.
