CAIRO – 17 March 2026: For the fifth consecutive year, the Faisal district on Tuesday hosted the largest communal Iftar in the Giza Governorate, stretching across 22 streets from the Faculty of Physical Education to 20th Street.

From the early hours of the morning, dozens of young volunteers spread out across the neighborhood, thoroughly cleaning the streets in preparation for setting up hundreds of tables and chairs to accommodate the expected crowds.

Preparations included hanging traditional Ramadan decorations and strings of lights along the thoroughfares, while other groups managed the setup of food distribution points.

On the culinary side, kitchens were bustling with activity as massive quantities of meals—including rice, meat, poultry, and juices—were prepared. A large team of cooks worked long hours to ensure all food was ready well before sunset.

Residents noted that this year's communal Iftar saw a significant expansion compared to previous years, both in the number of participating streets and the volume of meals provided. They emphasized that the goal is to bring joy to those fasting and to strengthen the spirit of community participation.

Organizers pointed out that the Iftar has become an annual tradition they are keen to maintain due to the sense of cohesion and solidarity it fosters. Participation is open to everyone regardless of age, with residents competing to contribute through manual labor, financial donations, or food preparation.

Similar large-scale Iftar events were organized in other Egyptian districts and governorates, including Matariya and Imbaba.

In Matariya, nearly 90,000 people attended the Iftar, serving as a remarkable example of social solidarity and presenting a powerful image of a united Egypt.

Considered one of the largest Ramadan tables in the country, the event relies entirely on the voluntary efforts of local residents who have come together for 12 consecutive years to create this landmark event.

Residents of Cairo’s Imbaba neighborhood also prepared a massive communal Iftar on March 6.

The event served more than 20,000 meals at a single, continuous table. What began as a modest proposal by local youth quickly evolved into a major community milestone. After the organizers shared their vision on social media, the idea garnered immediate and widespread support from residents across the district.

As momentum grew, numerous citizens volunteered to help organize the logistics, joined by contributions from several members of parliament. This collective effort helped scale the initiative into a significant Ramadan celebration.
