Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty holds intensified calls with regional counterparts as Egypt pushes for de-escalation and warns against spillover.
CAIRO – 11 March 2026: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has stepped up contacts with regional and international counterparts, urging an immediate push toward de-escalation and warning that the widening cycle of military action risks dragging the region into a far more dangerous phase.
In calls over the past hours, Abdelatty spoke with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty stressed that the region needs coordinated regional and international efforts to contain the crisis, prioritize political solutions, and rely on dialogue and diplomacy to prevent the conflict from expanding.
He warned that any further widening of military operations could place regional security and stability under severe strain, with consequences that would not stop at the Middle East’s borders.
Abdelatty also reiterated Egypt’s condemnation of attacks on the security and sovereignty of states, saying there is no justification or pretext for such actions.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister cautioned against what he described as catastrophic repercussions if violence continues and the conflict broadens, threatening both regional and international peace and security.
The minister also underlined the need for closer coordination to protect the stability of the region and safeguard international maritime navigation.
During his call with Jordan's Safadi, he discussed the latest escalation and the urgency of efforts to calm tensions.
He also raised the issue of Egyptian nationals stranded in neighbouring countries. He further noted that evacuations are taking place in stages via Jordan. Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the support provided by Jordanian authorities in facilitating those arrangements.
In his conversation with Iran's Araghchi, Abdelatty described the situation as extremely serious and pressed for preventing the conflict from spilling into neighboring states.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s full condemnation and rejection of Iranian attacks on Arab states and also referenced Turkiye and Azerbaijan, calling for an immediate end to actions that inflame the crisis.
Abdelatty emphasized respect for state sovereignty and the principles of good neighborliness, insisting that diplomacy and dialogue remain the only viable path to contain tensions and avoid what he warned could become a slide into broad regional disorder.
