CAIRO – 9 March 2026: Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, announced the state's plan to increase domestic wheat production to between 4.7 million and 5 million tons, compared to 3.9 million tons in 2025.
He added that the cultivated wheat area is expected to expand to 3.7 million acres.
Farouk attributed these positive projections to several technical factors, most notably the expansion of model farms, which play a key role in transferring technical expertise to farmers. He also highlighted efforts to modernize irrigation systems by educating farmers on the latest irrigation and agricultural techniques to maximize the efficient use of water resources.
In addition, the ministry aims to increase productivity per acre through the adoption of selected seed varieties and modern agricultural practices.
Farouk stressed that the wheat crop remains one of the Egyptian state’s top priorities, emphasizing the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen food security by providing farmers with a package of incentives and integrated support services.
