CAIRO- 27 February 2026: Egypt is following with grave concern the escalating tensions and border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which witnessed military confrontations on Thursday resulting in a number of casualties and injuries.
In a statement released by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and underscores the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to achieve de-escalation and contain the crisis, in order to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
Egypt also stressed the need to prioritize political and diplomatic solutions to resolve disputes in a manner that preserves regional security and stability.
As part of ongoing communications to monitor the rapidly evolving developments and support efforts to reduce tensions, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, held a telephone conversation on Friday, February 27, with Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. During the call, he received a detailed briefing on the current situation and recent developments.
Minister Abdelatty conveyed Egypt’s deep concern regarding these developments and reiterated the call for de-escalation and restraint to help ease tensions and prevent further instability in the region.
On February 26, Afghanistan launched a military operation against Pakistani forces along the entire Durand Line- the border between the two countries, which Kabul does not recognize- in response to Pakistani air force strikes on Afghan territory. Islamabad announced that it had also opened fire and later declared open war on Afghanistan.
