CAIRO – 14 February 2026: As part of the state’s commitment to promoting mental health and advancing human development, the Ministry of Health and Population has launched specialized clinics dedicated to treating internet and video game misuse and addiction. The initiative falls under the “Your Health is Your Happiness” program, which focuses on mental well-being.
The first phase includes six major hospitals strategically distributed across Greater Cairo, the Delta, Lower Egypt, and Upper Egypt. Each hospital will operate a specialized clinic one day per week, every Wednesday. These hospitals are: Abbassia Mental Health Hospital, Khanka Mental Health Hospital, Maamoura Mental Health Hospital (Alexandria), Damira Mental Health Hospital (Dakahlia), Minya Mental Health Hospital, and Assiut Mental Health Hospital.
The clinics are open to all age groups and operate under a comprehensive strategy that includes early diagnosis through thorough clinical assessments to evaluate cases of excessive use. The approach also establishes “safe screen-time hours” tailored to different age groups and utilizes digital assessment tools, including surveys and an Internet Addiction Questionnaire, to determine the appropriate course of treatment.
In addition, the initiative incorporates intensive awareness campaigns through the National Mental Health Platform and social media channels to highlight the risks associated with digital addiction.
This step comes as part of ongoing efforts to address emerging psychological challenges, particularly amid the widespread overuse of digital technology. The initiative aims to safeguard the mental health of individuals and families, while raising public awareness about the risks of digital addiction and the available methods of prevention and treatment.
