CAIRO – 4 February 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is receiving Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Wednesday for high-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Türkiye.

The Egyptian Presidency said the two leaders are set to hold an official round of discussions before co-chairing the second meeting of the Egypt-Türkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

They will also take part in the closing session of the Egyptian-Turkish business forum, scheduled for later today, which is being held with broad participation from business leaders as well as financial and economic institutions from both countries.

Egypt and Türkiye maintain longstanding bilateral relations rooted in strong historical, cultural, and religious ties.

In recent years, the two countries have moved to strengthen diplomatic engagement, marked by an exchange of visits between El-Sisi and Erdoğan, as well as frequent high-level contacts between senior officials from both sides.

Economic relations have also seen steady growth. Bilateral trade reached $8 billion in 2024, up from US$6.5 billion in 2023, according to Egyptian government figures.

Egyptian presidential directives aim to raise trade volume to $15 billion within the next five years.

Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib said in December that Egypt currently hosts around 200 Turkish companies, with total investments estimated at $3 billion.

On the political front, Cairo and Ankara maintain high-level coordination on key regional issues, including the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Both countries have played a mediating role in efforts to secure a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, contributing to the current relative calm in Gaza.
