Egypt releases more than 2.5K prisoners on occasion of Police Day

CAIRO - 26 January 2026: A total of 2,520 inmates will be released as per a presidential pardon on the occasion of the celebration of the 74th Police Day and the 74th anniversary of the epic Battle of Ismailia, announced the Ministry of Interior.

Committees formed by the Community Protection Sector reviewed inmates’ files nationwide to determine those eligible for the pardon. The review resulted in the inclusion of 2,520 inmates who met the established criteria.

This step comes within the framework of the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to implementing a modern penal policy, providing comprehensive care for inmates, and enhancing release mechanisms that support their reintegration into society after rehabilitation and preparation for normal life.
