CAIRO – 16 January 2026: Official spokesperson for the Fatah movement Maher Al-Namoura praised the historic and pivotal role of Egypt, under President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, in supporting the Palestinian people.

He highlighted that Cairo’s hosting of the first meeting of the Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of the Gaza Strip marks a genuine launchpad for meaningful work on the ground.

In a phone interview with Extra News, Dr. Al-Namoura expressed Fatah’s deep appreciation for Egypt’s tireless efforts that facilitated the ceasefire agreement and the commencement of the Administrative Committee’s work. He noted that confidence in Egypt stems from its consistent Arab and fraternal role, particularly regarding the Palestinian cause, which was reflected in the thorough preparations and readiness to host the Committee in Cairo.

The spokesperson affirmed that Egypt’s role extends beyond political and diplomatic efforts to include significant field and humanitarian support. As Gaza’s bordering country and the only gateway through the Rafah crossing, Egypt mobilized thousands of trucks delivering medical supplies and food aid to help the people of Gaza and mitigate the effects of the Israeli-imposed siege.

Dr. Al-Namoura emphasized that the Committee operates according to Egypt’s plan, approved by the Arab League and the European Union, which prioritizes the unity of Palestinian territories—Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem. He described this approach as a decisive measure against occupation attempts to divide the homeland, calling Egypt’s position an “impregnable bulwark” that foiled forced displacement and efforts to undermine the Palestinian cause.

He concluded by stressing that the Administrative Committee functions in full coordination with the Palestinian Authority and the Ramallah government under President Mahmoud Abbas. Dr. Al-Namoura highlighted that Palestinian unity, together with cooperation with Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, is essential to achieving national goals and effectively managing civil affairs and essential services in Gaza during the coming phase.
