CAIRO – 14 January 2026: The Palestinian Presidency commended the role and efforts of mediating countries—Egypt, Qatar and Turkey—in moving to the second phase of the agreement in the Gaza Strip.
It also praised the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump to complete the implementation of his peace plan and U.N. Security Council Resolution 2803, including the formation of the Peace Council and its executive bodies.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the presidency affirmed its support for the formation of the Palestinian committee to administer the Gaza Strip during this transitional phase. Officials noted they have been in close contact with Special Envoy for Peace Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, U.S. teams and Nikolay Mladenov to support U.S. efforts aimed at consolidating the ceasefire and moving to the implementation of the second phase, including reconstruction.
The presidency expressed appreciation for the leadership demonstrated by Trump, whose direct engagement and resolve have contributed to creating a new opportunity for peace, stability and good governance in Gaza.
It reiterated the importance of linking the institutions of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The statement also called for refraining from establishing any administrative, legal or security systems that perpetuate duplication or division, while adhering to the principle of "one system, one law and one legitimate armed force."
The Palestinian Presidency stressed the importance of working with the United States and relevant partners to take decisive steps in the West Bank in parallel with the transitional phase in Gaza.
These steps must ensure a halt to unilateral actions that violate international law, stop settlement expansion and settler violence, release withheld Palestinian funds, and prevent displacement, annexation and the undermining of the two-state solution.
The presidency called on all Palestinian factions, national institutions and civil society organizations to bear their national and historical responsibilities and work in a spirit of partnership to make this delicate transitional phase a success.
