CAIRO 14 January 2026: Egypt stressed that it does not recognize any parallel entities or militias in Sudan and that it rejects equating Sudanese state institutions, foremost the army, with armed groups under any circumstances.

Speaking at a joint press conference on Wednesday with United Nations Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Sudan Ramtane Lamamra, Abdelatty said the war in Sudan amounts to a systematic destruction of the country’s national capabilities.

He stressed that any threat to Sudan’s national security constitutes a direct threat to Egypt’s national security and “cannot be tolerated.”

Abdelatty said the continued destabilization of Sudan for a prolonged period is unacceptable, adding that there is an opportunity that must be seized to bring the war to an end.

He said Egypt is exerting pressure in this direction in coordination with international partners.

The foreign minister underscored the need to revive the political track in Sudan without external interference or imposed solutions, noting that Egypt is holding contacts with the United States to reach understandings aimed at ending the conflict.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s longstanding position, which includes preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.

Abdelatty also said the fifth meeting of the consultative mechanism to enhance peace in Sudan, held in Cairo today, was convened based on direct directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

He added that Egypt is working toward the establishment and implementation of an immediate humanitarian truce in the war-battered country.
