CAIRO – 14 January 2026: Egypt has emphasized its “red lines” on Sudan as it hosted the fifth consultative meeting for peace efforts in the war-battered country in Cairo with senior diplomats and representatives from various world countries.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty referred to an Egyptian presidential statement issued on December 18, which clearly defined Egypt’s established position and “red lines” on Sudan.

These include preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, rejecting the separation of any part of its territory, and protecting Sudan’s state institutions, the foreign minister stressed.

Abdelatty affirmed that the crisis in Sudan requires the concerted and since regional and international efforts to urgently stop the ongoing bloodshed.

He warned that the current conflict poses serious risks to regional peace and security, especially in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea Region.

Humanitarian Truce

The foreign minister stressed that ending the deadly fighting requires an urgent humanitarian truce, followed by a sustainable ceasefire and the launch of a comprehensive political process that preserves Sudan’s state institutions and prevents the emergence of parallel entities.

They underscored the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to support a ceasefire track, protect civilians, and ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance.

They further stressed the need to back a comprehensive political process that safeguards Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity and meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security and stability.
