Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty meets with US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos on 14 Jan. 2026. Cabinet

CAIRO – 14 January 2026: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met on Wednesday with US President Donald Trump's senior advisor for Arab and African affairs, discussing a range of regional issues, including the war in Sudan and Israel’s recent recognition of the self-declared region of Somaliland.

During the talks in Cairo, Abdelatty stressed to senior advisor Massad Boulos the importance of concerted efforts to achieve a humanitarian truce and ceasefire in Sudan, paving the way for a comprehensive political process.

The foreign minister also called for boosting humanitarian aid to Sudan and enhancing coordination with relief organizations and the Sudanese government.

He emphasized Egypt’s ongoing commitment to providing humanitarian and relief support to the Sudanese people.

Discussions covered the fifth Consultative Meeting on Enhancing Coordination of Peace Initiatives and Efforts for the Sudan, which is hosted in Cairo.

Somaliland Recognition

On developments in the Horn of Africa, the foreign minister reaffirmed rejection of Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a violation of international law.

He warned that such recognition undermines Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while threatening stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
