CAIRO – 11 January 2026: Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defense and Military Production, General Abdel Mageed Saqr, met on Sunday with Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army Lt. Gen. Saddam Haftar, who is currently visiting Egypt.

The meeting discussed bilateral military cooperation between the armed forces of both countries, the Egyptian Armed Forces’ spokesman said in a statement.

The two sides also addressed key regional and international developments and their implications for security and stability in the region.

During his visit, Haftar also met with Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Gen. Ahmed Khalifa, where the two discussed a range of issues aimed at strengthening bilateral military relations between Egypt and Libya.

Khalifa expressed pride in the longstanding ties between the Egyptian and Libyan armed forces, stressing the Egyptian Armed Forces’ commitment to enhancing cooperation across various military fields.

The Egyptian army chief of staff also underscored the importance of joint efforts to counter threats that could undermine Libya’s security and stability.

For his part, Haftar voiced appreciation for Egypt’s supportive role toward the Libyan people in preserving the country’s unity and territorial integrity.

He also praised Cairo’s continued efforts to promote security and stability in the region.

Senior military officials from both Egypt and Libya attended the meetings.
