CAIRO – 4 January 2026: Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) Hassan Rashad met with Palestinian Vice President as part of ongoing efforts to implement the second phase of Gaza’s peace plan.

The meeting comes as part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to promote stability in the Palestinian territories, Extra News reported, noting that the Palestinian intelligence chief joined the meeting.

The talks are linked to preparations for the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza plan put forward by US President Donald Trump, as well as the relevant UN Security Council resolution.

Trump’s multi-phase plan, approved by Hamas and Israel and endorsed by many world leaders and a Security Council resolution, has established a ceasefire after two years of Israel war as part of the first phase.

Meanwhile, phase two is set to include the establishment of the “Board of Peace,” headed by Trump and other members including former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, to supervise a Palestinian technocratic Gaza governance.

That phase will also include the formation of a temporary multinational force, dubbed the International Stabilisation Force (ISF), which is set to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza while Israeli forces withdraw.
