CAIRO – 4 January 2026: Egypt recorded a historic high of 19 million tourist arrivals last year, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said, an unprecedented milestone for the country’s tourism sector.

Madbouly, during a meeting with several ministers on Sunday, said Egypt has the chance to achieve its goal of attracting 30 million tourists annually.

The prime minister stressed that the government is continuing efforts to simplify travel procedures, ease entry requirements for tourists, and enhance the overall tourism experience.

He also highlighted ongoing upgrades at airports, including the acceleration and simplification of arrival and departure procedures, alongside extensive efforts by the tourism sector to expand hotel room capacity to accommodate rising demand.

Madbouly underlined that improving the quality of the tourist experience and Egypt’s international image remains the most critical factor.

The reported rise in tourist arrivals is highly significant for Egypt, which relies on tourism as a vital source of foreign currency, alongside Suez Canal revenues, remittances from Egyptian expatriates and foreign investments.

Egypt welcomed over 15 million tourists in 2024 and aims to attract 30 million tourists by 2028.
