Kurdistan PM praises Egypt’s role in backing Iraq, restoring regional peace

CAIRO – 21 December 2025: Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region Masrour Barzani praised Egypt’s role in supporting Iraq and restoring peace and stability in the region during talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Sunday.

During the meeting in Cairo, El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full and continued support for Iraq in confronting regional challenges especially terrorism.

The president also stressed Egypt’s support for the Iraqi unity and territorial integrity and praised security cooperation between Egypt and Iraq.

El-Sisi praised security cooperation between the two countries and also commended efforts by the Iraqi state and Kurdistan Regional Government authorities to promote stability and peace in the region.

The two sides exchanged views on several regional issues of mutual concern, with Barzani sharing his assessment of developments in the region.

El-Sisi outlined Egypt’s vision for restoring security and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, Barzani praised Egypt’s role in supporting Iraq and restoring peace and stability in the region.

Egypt’s General Intelligence Service head Hassan Rashad attended the meeting, alongside Kurdistan Region Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed and Head of the Kurdistan Region Intelligence Service Mohsen Kamal.
