CAIRO – 18 December 2025: Egypt has expressed readiness to meet Gambia’s needs in energy, construction and infrastructure, and to strengthen security cooperation.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty made the remarks as he received his Gambian counterpart, Sering Modou Njie, on Wednesday.

Abdelatty said Egypt is keen for experienced Egyptian companies to take part in Gambia’s development plans across multiple sectors.

He also underscored the importance of continued cooperation in health, highlighting a project to build and equip an Egyptian-run investment hospital in Banjul staffed by Egyptian professionals.

Economic Ties

On economic cooperation, Abdelatty voiced Egypt’s interest in convening the Egyptian-Gambian joint committee, describing it as a key institutional boost to bilateral relations.

He stressed the need to deepen economic cooperation, expand trade and investment, and capitalise on opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Abdelatty highlighted prospects for cooperation in tourism, housing and infrastructure, with greater involvement of the private sector to support trade and investment flows between the two countries.

Capacity Building

Abdelatty said Egypt is prepared to support Gambia in training and capacity-building through programs run by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA).
