Egypt, US condemn attack on UN peacekeepers in Sudan, reject attempts to split country

CAIRO - 16 December 2025: Egypt’s foreign minister and US senior advisor for Africa renewed their condemnation of the recent attack on the United Nations mission headquarters in Kadugli, Sudan, which killed and injured many peacekeepers.

A foreign ministry statement on Tuesday said the two sides condemned the incident as treacherous, reaffirming their full solidarity with the Sudanese people in such critical time.

A drone strike on a UN peacekeeping logistics base in the city of Kadugli in the central region of Kordofan killed six peacekeepers and injured eight others on Saturday. All victims are from Bangladesh.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the attack can amount to a war crime.

Sudan’s Armed Forces have blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been fighting the army for control of the country since April 2023, for the strike. The RSF has denied responsibility.

In a phone conversation, Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos underscored the need for preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.

They highlighted the importance of their coordination within the Quad mechanism, which includes the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia besides Egypt and the United States.

The foreign minister emphasized the need for concerted regional and global efforts to advance a comprehensive ceasefire and create conditions for an inclusive political process.
