New Capital – 13 December 2025: The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) on Saturday kicked off the African Trade Centre project in Egypt’s New Capital, marking a major step in promoting continental commerce.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Central Bank Governor Hassan Abdalla, and Afreximbank President George Elombi attended the ceremony, along with members of the bank’s board, diplomats, and business leaders.
Afreximbank, a leading multilateral financial institution in Africa, aims to promote trade between African countries, foster innovation, and enhance the continent’s integration into the global economy.

The African Trade Centre, the first of its kind in North Africa, is expected to serve as a hub for trade information, capacity building, innovation, and continental connectivity.
It is anticipated to expand opportunities for commerce and investment while reinforcing Egypt’s role as a key driver of Africa’s economic development.
In his remarks at the ceremony, the Egyptian prime minister said the project marks a milestone in Egypt’s partnership with Afreximbank, built on shared goals and a vision for Africa’s economic advancement.

He added that the center reflects Egypt’s central role in supporting continental economic integration and facilitating trade.
As the host country of Afreximbank’s headquarters, Egypt takes pride in strengthening this partnership through this landmark project, Madbouly said, noting that the project will serve as a vital hub for trade information, capacity building, innovation, and continental connectivity.
