CAIRO – 7 December 2025: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the government is closely following the implementation steps of the development project for the Giza Zoo and Orman Botanical Garden.
Madbouly described the project as a "dream" for the government that everyone is working to achieve.
He added that the project’s significance gives the historic nature of both sites, stating that the government looks forward to their revival and the completion of development according to the scheduled timeline, ensuring they are managed and operated optimally.
This occurred during a meeting held on Sunday to review the executive status of the revival and development project.
The meeting included the Minister of State for Military Production, the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and several key officials and international consultants involved in the project.
He stressed the goal of launching the project soon under professional private-sector management to preserve the investments being made, spokesperson Mohamed El Homosany said.
The meeting reviewed the project stages, noting that designs and restoration work have been approved by specialized international organizations.
The project utilizes scientific treatments for the botanical environments and provides training for staff based on the highest global standards to ensure operations align with international benchmarks.
The Giza Zoo, one of the world’s oldest, has been closed since July 2023 for a major renovation ordered by President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, alongside the redevelopment of the neighbouring Orman Botanical Garden.
The project is being carried out under the supervision of global zoo associations and a consortium of national companies led by the National Military Production Company.
The reopening of both sites is expected in 2026.
