CAIRO – 28 November 2025: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with his Palestinian counterpart, Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, on Friday on the sidelines of the 10th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean in Barcelona.

This meeting comes within the framework of ongoing consultations between Egypt and Palestine regarding the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and efforts to de-escalate the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This stance was also reiterated during a phone call yesterday between Minister Abdelatty and Hussein al-Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine.

Minister Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s continued intensive efforts to halt the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing Egypt’s categorical rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank. He also underscored the necessity of consolidating the ceasefire to enable an effective response to the humanitarian catastrophe facing Gaza’s population.

The spokesperson added that Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at changing the demographic or geographic reality of the Gaza Strip, stressing that any future arrangements must fall within a comprehensive political process that respects the unity and territorial contiguity of Palestinian lands and safeguards the rights of the Palestinian people.

He further highlighted the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2803 on Gaza, including the deployment of the International Stabilization Force (ISF) to help consolidate the ceasefire and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid, in line with the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit and President Trump's related plan.

Abdelatty also expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the close coordination with the Palestinian leadership, reaffirming Cairo’s commitment to defending the Palestinian cause in international forums and supporting Gaza’s reconstruction and early-recovery efforts, particularly in preparation for the international conference Egypt is set to host on this matter. He praised Palestinian efforts to maintain continuous communication with Egypt to ensure a unified stance in addressing current challenges.

For her part, Palestinian Foreign Minister Aghabekian Shahin expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal and steadfast support for the Palestinian people and their just cause. She commended Cairo’s efforts in achieving a ceasefire and providing humanitarian assistance, affirming Palestine’s commitment to continued coordination with Egypt to strengthen the resilience of the Palestinian people and advance their legitimate goals of freedom and self-determination.
