CAIRO – 28 November 2025: On the sidelines of his visit to Greece, Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), met with Mr. Panos Xenokostas, CEO of ONEX Shipyard- one of Greece’s largest shipyards- to discuss avenues of cooperation in joint manufacturing, training, and converting ships to run on clean fuel.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Veron Vassiliadis, Chairman of the V Group and owner of Antipollution, along with a high-level delegation from ONEX Shipyard, including the Head of Logistics and the Chief Financial Officer.
During the visit, Admiral Rabie toured ONEX Shipyard’s facilities, including its workshops, technical training centers, maintenance docks, and construction yards. He was briefed on the shipyard’s activities in building and manufacturing a variety of marine vessels, as well as the technologies used in shipbuilding and in converting ships and marine units to operate on clean fuels alongside conventional fuels.
Rabie emphasized that the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has taken major steps to develop and modernize its shipyards to maximize the advantages of their strategic location and available human and material resources. This modernization is being supported through strengthened partnerships with leading international shipyards and the exchange of expertise in shipbuilding and marine repair.
His remarks were made on the sidelines of his participation in the opening of the 14th Arab-Greek Economic Forum, organized by the Arab-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce over two days in Athens.
The forum’s activities included attending the opening session, titled “Prospects for Future Arab-Greek Cooperation in the Construction Sector,” followed by bilateral meetings with officials from several Arab and Greek companies. Rabie reviewed the capabilities of SCA-affiliated companies in construction, infrastructure, and port development, highlighting their extensive experience in maritime infrastructure and port and dock works.
He also noted the recent expansion of these companies’ activities, including the implementation of numerous infrastructure projects across several Arab and African countries. Rabie expressed his keenness to explore future cooperation with Arab and Greek partners and affirmed the readiness of SCA-affiliated companies to participate in infrastructure projects beyond Egypt.
During the forum’s opening ceremony, Ambassador Omar Amer, Egypt’s Ambassador to Greece, expressed appreciation for the promising opportunities the event offers to strengthen Arab-Greek partnerships. He highlighted the strategic cooperation between the Suez Canal Authority and the Greek V Group, through Antipollution Egypt, as a leading model of successful Egyptian-Greek collaboration.
The Ambassador also underscored the pivotal role of the Suez Canal in facilitating trade between East and West and ensuring the stability of global supply chains. He commended the Suez Canal Authority’s efforts to restore major shipping lanes in the Red Sea region, praising its proactive steps toward achieving a gradual recovery from the Red Sea crisis and working to return canal traffic to normal levels.
