CAIRO – 25 November 2025: Egypt and Cyprus discussed boosting energy cooperation as well as the need to enforce the latest UN Security Council resolution on Gaza during a phone call between their foreign ministers on Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty affirmed to his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos the importance of intensifying joint efforts to activate and implement the memoranda of understanding and agreements signed between the two countries.

Abdelatty reaffirmed the importance of cooperation in the energy sector and continued coordination to link Cypriot gas fields to Egypt, as well as expanding economic and investment cooperation and increasing bilateral trade.

He also highlighted the need to capitalize on promising opportunities for cooperation in tourism.

Moreover, Abdelatty urged swift implementation of the memorandum of understanding on employing Egyptian workers in Cyprus and developing it to cover a wider range of sectors.

The ministers also exchanged views on regional developments, particularly the conflict in Gaza and the Palestinian cause, as well as the situation in Sudan.

Abdelatty urged the international community to ensure compliance with the Security Council resolution on Gaza and the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement.

He stressed the necessity to consolidate the ceasefire and ensure unhindered humanitarian access and early recovery and reconstruction, calling for active international participation in the reconstruction conference that Egypt is set to host.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any steps that would separate Gaza from the West Bank or undermine prospects for a two-state solution.

In Sudan, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position in support of Sudan’s security, stability, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

He outlined Egypt’s efforts to help resolve the crisis within the framework of the Quad mechanism to secure a ceasefire and create conditions conducive to launching an inclusive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability.

Abdelatty also stressed the need for regional and international efforts to converge in order to establish safe corridors for the delivery of humanitarian aid to support the Sudanese people and assist the country’s national institutions.
