CAIRO – 20 November 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and First Lady Entissar El-Sisi will welcome South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and First Lady of Korea Kim Hea Kyung in Cairo on Thursday.
The talks will cover various aspects of bilateral relations between Egypt and South Korea, according to the Egyptian Presidency.
The bilateral relationship between the two countries received a significant boost following El-Sisi’s visit to South Korea in 2016, during which the leaders agreed to upgrade ties.
Growing Partnership
Egypt and South Korea are marking 30 years of diplomatic relations, and are working to strengthen their strategic partnership in various fields, including economic collaboration.
During the Korea-Egypt Economic Conference held in Cairo last September, Egypt’s Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk said trade exchange between the two nations reached $1.6 billion in 2024.
Meanwhile, South Korean foreign direct investments have exceeded LE 6 billion to date.
Seoul’s Ambassador to Cairo Kim Yonghyon noted that South Korean investment in Egypt reached $930 million in 2024, led by major companies such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, according to state-owned Al Ahram.
A total of 171 Korean firms now operate in the country, the ambassador added.
Korean companies continue to expand into renewable energy and green technologies, the ambassador said.
He highlighted the Korean companies’ existing contributions to Egypt’s industrial development in automotives, plastics, machinery, and advanced technology, supporting Egypt’s broader sustainability and growth goals.
