CAIRO – 16 November 2025: Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, received Abdoulaye Sabre Fadoul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chad, on the sidelines of the meetings of the Joint Committee between Egypt and Chad.

The two ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement on Sunday.

Minister Abdelatty praised the positive momentum in relations between the two countries and the mutual commitment to advancing these ties and expanding them into broader horizons.

He highlighted the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to continuously enhance relations with Chad in all fields, an approach reflected in recent high-level visits, including the President’s visit with a delegation of Egyptian business leaders in December 2024, as well as the February 2025 visit of Chad’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, also accompanied by a business delegation. These exchanges underscore Egypt’s serious interest in deepening cooperation with Chad in priority areas.

The Foreign Minister underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation in various sectors, particularly military cooperation in training and capacity-building for Chadian security forces. He also praised the robust cooperation on infrastructure projects in Chad, especially the Egypt–Libya–Chad road, along with other road construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects. He reaffirmed the Egyptian government’s commitment to increasing trade with Chad to achieve shared benefits.

Minister Abdelatty also noted ongoing preparations to dispatch an Egyptian ophthalmology medical convoy to N'Djamena in December 2025 to perform 500 surgeries. He highlighted Egypt’s readiness to supply medicines and medical products to Chad at competitive prices. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of completing and operationalizing the Alexandria University branch in N'Djamena as soon as possible to serve the mutual interests of both countries. The Minister reviewed training and capacity-building programs provided by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), covering areas such as security, expert deployment, border management, combating human trafficking and cross-border threats, countering terrorism and extremist ideology, disarmament and reintegration, and climate, peace and security.

The two ministers also exchanged views on key regional issues, including the situation in the Sahel, the Horn of Africa, and developments in Sudan. The Foreign Minister stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire in Sudan and the creation of conditions for launching a comprehensive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability. He referred to the outcomes of his recent visit to Sudan on 11 November and called for coordinated regional and international efforts to support the Sudanese people and their national institutions.

Minister Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to Libya’s unity and sovereignty and emphasized support for Libyan-led efforts, based on the principle of exclusive Libyan ownership of the political process. He stressed the importance of supporting efforts to form a unified government that can create the conditions necessary for holding elections, as well as strengthening the role of legitimate Libyan institutions, particularly the House of Representatives, to fulfill the required frameworks for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections in accordance with agreed-upon terms of reference and relevant Security Council resolutions.

Regarding water security, the Egyptian Foreign Minister underscored the importance of cooperation in accordance with international law to safeguard the interests of all Nile Basin countries. He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of unilateral measures that violate international law in the Eastern Nile Basin and affirmed that Egypt will take all necessary measures, consistent with international law, to protect its water security.
