Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov made a phone call on Thursday, February 27
CAIRO – 8 November 2025 – Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty received a phone call on Friday, November 7, 2025, from his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The call came as part of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two countries regarding bilateral relations, as well as regional and international issues of common interest.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the two ministers reaffirmed the depth of historical relations between Egypt and Russia and the growing momentum in various areas of cooperation, particularly in the economic and trade sectors.
Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s pride in the strategic partnership that binds the two countries, describing it as a guiding framework for cooperation across multiple fields. He emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts to advance ongoing cooperation projects, particularly the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. These projects, he noted, will help strengthen Russian investments in Egypt and expand the scope of cooperation between the two nations.
The call also addressed recent developments in the Gaza Strip, with Minister Abdelatty reviewing Egypt’s ongoing efforts to consolidate the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement and ensure its full implementation. He stressed the need to move forward to the second phase of the plan, which includes political, developmental, and humanitarian components, in order to guarantee a lasting ceasefire and achieve sustainable security and stability in the region.
The Foreign Minister further highlighted preparations for the upcoming International Conference on Reconstruction, Early Recovery, and Development in the Gaza Strip, scheduled to be held in Cairo. He underscored the importance of mobilizing international support for the conference to ensure the reconstruction of the Strip and to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of its residents.
On the situation in Sudan, Ambassador Khallaf noted that both ministers emphasized the importance of preserving the Sudanese state and its national institutions, maintaining Sudan’s unity, and rejecting the establishment of any parallel entities. Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for Sudan’s unity, stability, and national institutions, outlining Egypt’s efforts within the framework of the Quartet Mechanism aimed at promoting de-escalation and achieving a comprehensive ceasefire.
Minister Abdelatty also stressed the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to secure a comprehensive humanitarian truce and open safe corridors to facilitate the delivery of relief and humanitarian aid to affected areas. He expressed Egypt’s strong condemnation of the grave violations occurring in El Fasher, voicing deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation. The Minister reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continuing the provision of humanitarian support to the Sudanese people.
