Egyptian expats in Saudi Arabia cast their votes in the first phase of the 2025 House of Representatives elections on November 7, 2025
CAIRO – 8 November 2025: For the second day in a row, Egyptian expatriates across the globe headed to embassies and consulates on Saturday to cast their ballots in the first phase of the 2025 House of Representatives elections.
During a press conference held via video link with the heads of overseas subcommittees—including ambassadors and members of diplomatic missions—Judge Ahmed Bendary, Head of the Central Operations Room of the National Elections Authority (NEA), announced that voting had opened in 105 polling stations abroad, with the remaining stations scheduled to open successively throughout the day.
The polling station at the Egyptian Embassy in New Zealand was the first to open for voting on the second day of the elections, as 9:00 a.m. Saturday in New Zealand corresponds to 10:00 p.m. Friday in Egypt, due to the 11-hour time difference between the two countries. Meanwhile, the polling station in Los Angeles, United States, will be the last to open on the second day, at 9:00 a.m. local time, corresponding to 7:00 p.m. in Cairo. Bendary added that voting has already concluded at the New Zealand polling station.
During the first day of voting, operations were marked by smooth logistics, clear procedures, and a strong spirit of civic participation, as Egyptian diplomatic missions and the NEA coordinated efforts across 117 countries.
Egypt’s parliamentary election calendar is divided into clear phases. For Egyptians abroad, the first phase takes place on Friday and Saturday, 7–8 November, with polling hours aligned to local time zones to allow expatriate voters to reach embassies and consulates after work or during the weekend. Inside Egypt, the corresponding phase will be held on 10–11 November.
Timetables published earlier this season set these dates, with runoff rounds planned for early December where required. The phased scheduling aims to ensure both predictability and accessibility, a design reflected in the orderly start of the electoral process.
