CAIRO – 25 October 2025: The Egyptian government inaugurated the fourth phase of the Presidential Initiative to Plant “100 Million Trees” in the New Valley Governorate on Saturday at the beginning of the official of Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment Manal Awad, and Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk.

 

The two Ministers were accompanied by Major General Dr. Mohamed El-Zamlout, Governor of the New Valley, and Ms. Hanan Magdy, Deputy Governor, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Environment. The event was also attended by the Governors of Sohag, Assiut, Giza, and Qalyubia, the Deputy Governor of Beheira, as well as a number of executive and community leaders.

 

This initiative comes within the framework of the Presidential mandate to follow up on the implementation of the “100 Million Trees” initiative, which seeks to increase the per capita share of green spaces, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve air quality, thereby contributing to public health protection and enhancing the urban and aesthetic character of cities and centers across Egypt’s governorates.

 

For her part, Dr. Manal Awad emphasized that the initiative reflects the State’s commitment to combating climate change and achieving sustainable environmental development nationwide.

 

She noted that the implementation of previous phases falls within the Ministry’s strategic plan to fulfill the objectives of the initiative. Awad highlighted the ongoing coordination with executive authorities in the governorates to monitor progress, ensure adherence to the designated timetable, assess the initiative’s environmental and urban impact, and safeguard the trees being planted.

 

Meanwhile, El-Zamlout, the Governor of the New Valley, stated that 545,000 fruit and timber trees had been planted during the first three phases of the initiative, with a target of 100,000 trees to be planted during the current phase.

 

As part of the visit, the ministerial and gubernatorial delegation also planted a palm tree in June 30 Park in Kharga, as part of the Presidential Initiative to expand palm cultivation and date production in the New Valley.
