CAIRO – 22 October 2025: Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh and head of the Palestinian General Intelligence Service Majed Faraj will arrive in Cairo on Wednesday for talks with Egyptian officials.

The discussions will focus on developments in Gaza following the cessation of the Israeli war, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) expects to play a key role in governing post-war Gaza, nearly two decades after Hamas seized control of the coastal enclave from President Mahmoud Abbas’s government in 2007.

The PA has affirmed that Gaza and the West Bank must remain unified under a single national authority.

The ceasefire in Gaza took effect on October 10 after two years of war as part of the first phase of a broader peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.

Under the plan, Gaza is to be administered temporarily by a “technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee” responsible for managing public services and municipal affairs.

This committee will operate under the supervision of a so-called “Board of Peace,” chaired by Trump, with other members and heads of state to be announced.

Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, remembered for his role in the 2003 Iraq invasion alongside the United States, is expected to join the board.

Eventually, the Palestinian Authority is slated to resume control of Gaza under the plan, following the completion of its ongoing reform program.

Responding to Trump’s proposal, Hamas approved to hand over Gaza administration to a Palestinian body of independent technocrats “based on national Palestinian consensus and backed by Arab and Islamic backing.”

Their statement did not mention the planned global body.

Egypt, in cooperation with Jordan, has been training thousands of Palestinian police personnel in Egyptian camps in preparation for their deployment in Gaza.
