CAIRO – 20 October 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, led a high-level inspection visit on Monday, October 20, to the Professor Dr. Magdi Yacoub Heart Center in Aswan.

Joining him were the Foreign Ministers of Burkina Faso, Karamoko Traoré; Mali, Abdoulaye Diop; Somalia, Abdisalam Abdi Ali; and Rwanda’s Minister of Interior, Vincent Biruta. The delegation was received by the Governor of Aswan, Major General Dr. Ismail Kamal, along with representatives from regional and international organizations and development partners.

The visit aligns with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to deepen Egypt’s engagement with the African continent and showcase the Center’s pioneering role in delivering high-quality healthcare services—not only for Egyptian citizens but also for patients from across Africa and the developing world.

This initiative underscores the humanitarian and developmental dimensions of Egyptian foreign policy, particularly through the work of the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD). The agency’s cooperation with Professor Dr. Magdi Yacoub includes health and humanitarian projects across Africa, most notably the establishment of a new Dr. Magdi Yacoub Heart Center in Rwanda, set to open in mid-2026 as a regional hub for specialized medical care.

During the visit, Professor Dr. Magdi Yacoub briefed the delegation on the Center’s cutting-edge medical technologies and treatment protocols. He also highlighted the Center’s specialized training programs designed for doctors and medical staff from Africa and other developing regions—initiatives that play a crucial role in building healthcare capacity across the continent.

The visiting ministers received a comprehensive overview of the Center’s future expansion plans, which aim to increase its patient intake from Egypt and beyond, while also enhancing its contributions to scientific research and international cooperation in the fields of cardiology and cardiovascular diseases.

Minister Abdelatty expressed deep appreciation for Dr. Yacoub and his team’s dedication to leveraging science and innovation in service of vulnerable communities in Egypt, Africa, and other developing nations. He described the Heart Center as a leading example of humanitarian diplomacy—reflecting Egypt’s commitment to solidarity, partnership, and sustainable development across the continent.

The African ministers, in turn, praised the exceptional services offered by the Professor Dr. Magdi Yacoub Heart Center. They commended its vital humanitarian mission, its role in providing world-class care to those most in need, and its contributions to medical capacity building and the strengthening of healthcare systems across Africa.
